Deep Carpet Cleaning

First, let’s look at the word ‘steam’. Steam Cleaning is just another term for ‘carpet cleaning’. The actual contents that come out of the carpet cleaning wand are the liquid form of water, not steam. To better understand how to clean your carpet and restore other areas in your home, I have developed some Do it yourself tips that will help you along the way.

Carpet Cleaning Health Benefits

Cleaning your carpet has many benefits to it. One benefit is that it creates a healthier environment in your home. Your carpet is filled with a large variety of allergens and bacteria including dust mites, mold spores, E. Coli, Staph, and Salmonella. The average homeowners’ carpet harbors about 200,000 bacteria on every square inch, about 4,000 times as much as their toilet seat. Skin cells, food particles, and pollen can all feed bacteria living in carpeting, and unfortunately, most vacuums don’t have the suction power to remove all of them.

How Deep Carpet Cleaning gets Rid of Bacteria

To lessen the amount of allergens and bacteria in your carpet, you should have your carpet deep cleaned at least twice per year. A professional carpet cleaner will use a hot water extractor that injects over 210 degree water, killing any bacteria that is in your carpet. There are several places that you can find high quality extractors and other carpet cleaning equipment for rent, but make sure you take head to the instructions and ask questions from your local equipment rental store.

What Types of Chemicals are Used for Cleaning Carpet?

There are a number of retail brands that you can use for your home to clean your carpet. The chemicals that professionals use can be very dangerous if not used properly. So if you do decide to clean your own carpet, I would suggest using a basic carpet cleaning solution that you can find in your local grocery or hardware store. These solutions can be applied in two ways: 1) Pour the solution directly into the carpet cleaning extractor or 2( Use an industrial sprayer to apply the solution before going over the carpet with the extractor. Most Carpet Cleaners choose option 2 because option 1 tends to leave residue behind. If the solution is concentrated, make sure that you follow the diluting instructions before apply it.

Step by Step Carpet Cleaning Instructions

1) Find a good carpet cleaning equipment rental place (ask questions and get suggestions about what types of chemicals to use for your carpet). Make sure the extractor has at least 110 cfm suction power and that the sprayer is over 140 psi.

2) Follow the instructions properly on how to assemble the extractor that you are working with. A lot of times portable extractors have to be plugged into a kitchen or bathroom where appliances are used. Bathrooms and Kitchens usually carry higher voltage outlets than others.

3) Use an industrial sprayer to pre-spray your carpet with the carpet cleaning solution of your choice. Make sure you cover all of the carpet.

4) If you are working with a high PH solution for your carpet, you may want to use fiber rinse. If you choose to use fiber rinse, dump the fiber rinse into the extractor mixing the appropriate amount with the water.

5) Turn on your extractor and use your wand to inject water over the areas where you applied solution and then extract the water and the solution several times.

6) After you have finished the entire room, you can use a carpet protector to repel soil and stains.

Once you have finished, refrain from walking on the carpet until it is completely dry. Walking on the carpet can sometimes draw stains back up that have seeped into the actual carpet padding.
